All you never wanted to know about a Nordic country

Explore the frozen North
Winter 2010
Such beautiful winter days are uncommon in recent years. But there are enough of them to allow ice-driving on the lake. If you like that kind of thing.
At long last…..
Blue anemone, aka hepatica. One of the first signs of Spring and a welcome burst of colour after the grey skies of late winter.

And what makes it all worthwhile
Beech forest. Something of a rarity outside the Deep South. Becoming even rarer with the cultivation of monocultural conifer plantations.
One of the few good things about Autumn.
Even when you can’t eat them, they’re still lovely to look at.

As you may have gathered, my emphasis will be on the countryside. Cities have become much the same the world over, and of course sinks of iniquity.
The same might be said of much of Internet and social media content. So this website will guarantee the following:
No pop-ups or pop-ins. No Tiktoks, Toltecs or tuktuks. No hawkers, muckrakers or influencers. No fake news and precious little real news.
What it does guarantee is exercises in the gentle art of essay-writing. You’ll be persuaded to put your feet up in front of an open fire, sip your brandy and fall asleep in the warm glow of all the aforementioned.
You may have noticed the odd domain name. There are two reasons for this. For a start, I live about half way between Liverpool and Lappland, both geographically and existentially. As for the other one, you’ll have to wait for the future explanatory blog.
And if you find yourself impressed by the site and drawn to my personality, and wish to express your delight with both, then I can recommend the contact menu. If, on the other hand, you want to inform me of your contempt, then please use snail mail.
And so, a health warning. We are not responsible for any deleterious effects on your physiological or psychological well-being. And, no, we will not feed your cat while you’re away.
Finally a word of thanks to our sponsor. Evert Wängberg has been an invaluable help in the construction of this site.
